We are pleased to offer PRP (platelet rich plasma) injections to assist in the treatment and recovery of chronic musculoskeletal injuries and acute injuries requiring rapid recovery.
During this procedure, a small amount of the patient's own blood is drawn and processed in a special centrifuge which separates and concentrates the platelets and other beneficial growth factors from the blood. Often referred to as PRP, the high concentration of platelets and growth factor, is then injected into the damaged tissue.
Platelets, a type of cell found in blood, pass through the bloodstream in a resting state. However, when an injury occurs, the cells become activated and produce several growth factors that aid in the body's healing process. Growth factors are compounds derived by platelet, which initiate connective tissue healing, bone regeneration and repair, promote development of new blood vessels and stimulate the healing process.
In this procedure, the concentration of platelets and growth factors increases up to 500%, therefore when the PRP is injected into the injured site an optimal healing environment is created.
