Viscosupplementation in Toronto Hyaluronic acid(HA) is a naturally occurring substance found in the synovial (joint) fluid. It acts as a lubricant to enable bones to move smoothly over each other and as a shock absorber for joint loads. In people with osteoarthritis (OA), this fluid becomes diseased and no longer protects the joint effectively. The covering on the ends of the bones (cartilage) can also break down, becoming worn and frayed. These changes may result in inflammation, swelling, tenderness and pain in the joint, which leads to a reduction in mobility. Although OA is most commonly found in the knee joint, it can also affect other joints such as the hip, ankle, shoulder or hands. What is viscosupplementation? Viscosupplementation is a procedure that can increase the cushioning and lubrication of osteoarthritic synovial, or joint, fluid. Viscosupplementation has been studied as a treatment for osteoarthritis since the 1970s and has been shown to be an effective treatment option in patients who cannot get pain relief from nonmedicinal measures or analgesic drugs. This procedure is not a cure for osteoarthri

Understanding BFR Training: Everything you need to know about BFR Training at Athlete's Care, from how it works and who it helps, to booking your first session in Toronto. What is Blood Flow Restriction (BFR) Training? Blood Flow Restriction (BFR) Training is a clinically supervised technique that uses a pneumatic tourniquet cuff on the upper arm or leg to partially restrict blood flow to a working muscle. Originally developed in Japan in the 1960s as KAATSU training, BFR allows patients to exercise with light loads, typically 20–30% of their maximum, while producing the same muscle-building signals as high-intensity training. At Athlete's Care, BFR is delivered within your physiotherapy session under the supervision of a certified clinician. How does BFR Training work? A calibrated cuff is inflated to a specific Limb Occlusion Pressure (LOP) tailored to you, partially reducing arterial inflow and fully restricting venous return from the limb. This creates a low-oxygen environment in the muscle. In response, the body accumulates lactic acid, the same byproduct produced during very heavy lifting, triggering increased muscle act
