Biography

Dr. Howard Chen completed a Fellowship in Sports Medicine at McMaster University, and the Diploma Exam from the Canadian Academy of Sports and Exercise Medicine. Dr. Chen received his Family Medicine training at the University of British Columbia and earned his MD at Dalhousie University. He has completed the Medical Acupuncture Program for Health Professionals and the Acupuncture for Sports Injuries Program at McMaster University. In addition, he holds medical acupuncture certificates from the University of Alberta and the Acupuncture Foundation of Canada Institute.

Dr. Chen holds an academic appointment as a clinical instructor/lecturer, with the University of Toronto Department of Family and Community Medicine at Women's College Hospital. He is a preceptor in the U of T Sports and Exercise Enhanced Residency Program and serves on the Residency and Competence Committees. He has consulted for the York University Dance and Athletics, Humber College Athletics and McMaster Athletics programs.

Dr. Chen has been involved with coverage of many sporting events including the National Figure Skating Championships, the World Road Cycling Championships, the 2009 World Junior Curling Championships, the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics, the 2015 Toronto Pan Am Games and the 2017 Invictus Games. He is a team physician for the Toronto Rock professional lacrosse team and is a Medical Lead for the Rogers Cup Professional Tennis Tournament in Toronto.
