Heather obtained a Masters of Physiotherapy at the University of Toronto after completing a Bachelor of Arts in Kinesiology at the University of Western Ontario (UWO). Heather developed a passion for sports medicine during her time in school after acting as athletic trainer for UWOs Mens Varsity Rugby team, as well as other intercollegiate teams, including hockey, wrestling and squash. She collaborated with Fowler Kennedys Sports Medicine Clinic to provide care both on and off the field, which prompted her to pursue a career in physiotherapy. Since that time, Heather has provided field coverage and therapy for other sports organizations including the Ontario Soccer Association, Toronto Rebellions & Toronto Dragons Rugby Clubs as well as Skate Canada. For the duration of 2010, Heather also worked as a sport physiotherapist for the Toronto Football Club (TFC) Academy teams.
Heather is a member of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association with great interest and participation in the orthopaedic and sport divisions. Heather believes strongly in continuing education in order to further her skill sets, thus providing comprehensive and individualized care to her patients. Although Heather has a keen interest in assessing and treating sports injuries, she has developed a broad range of expertise through post-graduate courses ranging from functional retraining to acupuncture, enabling her to treat a wide variety of acute and chronic disorders. In May of 2014, Heather successfully challenged her Sports Diploma exam which allows her to work with athletes on an international stage at events such as the Olympics & upcoming Pan American Games to be hosted in Toronto this year.
No stranger to sport herself, Heather competed internationally in equestrian on several occasions and was a member of the Canadian team to win the World Championships in Mounted Games in 2001. Outside of work and sport, Heather enjoys cooking, travelling and sharing the company of good friends and family!
