Dr. Alvi is an orthopaedic surgeon focused on the surgical and non-surgical treatment of musculoskeletal conditions and sports injuries. He obtained his medical degree from McMaster University and completed specialty training in Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Toronto. He is double-fellowship trained in upper and lower extremity trauma and reconstruction surgeries. Dr. Alvi completed his first fellowship in hand, wrist, elbow, shoulder trauma and reconstruction at the Hand and Upper Limb Centre (HULC) at the University of Western Ontario. His second fellowship was in adult hip and knee reconstruction at Mount Sinai Hospital at the University of Toronto. Prior to his medical training, he completed his PhD degree in Engineering at the University of Toronto and is a registered professional engineer of Ontario (PEng). Dr. Alvi has received multiple awards - most recently the A.W. Harrison Resident Teaching Award, Department of Surgery, University of Toronto where he was Chief Resident, Trauma Rotation at Sunnybrook Hospital.

Dr. Alvi is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCSC) and an orthopaedic consultant for Athlete’s Care Sports Medicine Centres. He is also the medical director of Athlete’s Care Clinic at the Empress Walk location. He holds courtesy privileges at Scarborough General, and Ross Memorial Hospitals.

He has conducted research in the areas of non-surgical management of sports injuries (Sports Medicine Clinic, Mt. Sinai Hospital, Toronto), evidence-based indications for elbow arthroscopy, novel treatments for the fractures of the distal humerus and the elbow (St. Joseph’s Health Care, University of Western Ontario), articular lesions around the knee, and prevention and management of fragility fractures. He has published articles and book chapters in his areas of interest. He has developed unique treatment protocols using radial and focused shockwave, advanced laser, deep oscillation, pulsed electromagnetic field, joint fluid therapy, platelet-rich plasma (PRP), and bone marrow aspirate (BMA) stem cell grafting. Dr. Alvi supervises graduate students working in the field of orthobiologics and stem cell research.

Dr. Alvi is the senior orthopaedic consultant for the leading executive healthcare clinic in Downtown Toronto. Dr. Alvi has been a fundamental asset in providing innovative methods and technologies to this very high profile patient population in treatment of various orthopaedic conditions.
